Conquer depression with downward dogs

Have I mentioned lately how much I despise antidepressants?

Oh, yes — I have. In fact, just a few weeks ago, I mentioned how a new study has linked these drugs to brain bleeds. And not too long before that, I shared how thrilled I am that research revealing junk food’s role in depression is actually getting traction in the mental healthcare community.

Simply put, the sooner we start weaning the American public off of these widespread poisons, the better. And a new study suggests that regular yoga practice could play a crucial role in the effort.

Researchers at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill recently analyzed 13 different reviews, as part of a larger meta-review of 185 articles published over more than a decade.

Their findings: Yoga holds real promise in the battle against anxiety, depression, and PTSD.

The study authors emphasize that there isn’t enough evidence to support yoga’s role as a standalone depression treatment yet. But pair it with a clean, unprocessed diet, and the right combination of supplements?

Well, I’m going to go out on a limb and predict that patients would be kicking Prozac faster than you can say “namaste.”
